Compensation is available for Impacted First Nations and eligible individuals subject to a drinking water advisory that lasted at least one year between November 20, 1995 and June 20, 2021.

Check the list or explore the map of Impacted First Nations to see if your community/Band is on the list.

As an individual, you can submit a Claim Form even if your First Nation does not submit a Band Council Acceptance Resolution. Individuals can also apply for additional compensation for Specified Injuries.

The Settlement specifically excludes members of the following First Nations:

  • Tsuu T’ina Nation
  • Sucker Creek First Nation
  • Ermineskin Cree Nation
  • Blood Tribe (Kainai Nation)
  • Okanagan Indian Band

The listed First Nations are bringing their claims in a different way, so their members are not eligible for compensation under this Settlement. If you are unsure whether the Settlement Agreement applies to you, please contact Class Counsel at counsel@firstnationsdrinkingwater.ca or 1-833-265-7589 (toll free).

This map shows all the First Nations that had known long-term drinking water advisories in the time frames covered by the settlement. As a reminder, a ‘long-term drinking water advisory’ means one that lasted for a year or longer.

You may be eligible for additional compensation for Specified Injuries if you suffered significant and prolonged health problems that harmed your quality of life and disrupted your wellbeing and/or daily activities, and the health problems were directly caused by the drinking water advisory, either because you used treated or tap water in accordance with the advisory but still got sick, or because you didn’t have proper access to treated or tap water.

If you are applying for Specified Injuries, you must complete an Individual Claim Form
