A nation-wide strike by Canada Post is affecting delivery of Settlement mail, including eligibility letters, compensation cheques and missing information notices.
Additional First Nations communities included in the Settlement July 19, 2024 Some First Nation Reserves have been added to the Settlement and eligible individuals from these communities have a limited extension to the deadline for submitting claims. New First Nations communities included in the Settlement March 22, 2024 While the deadline for regular claims submissions has passed, some First Nations were recently included in the Settlement and individuals have been given a limited extension to the deadline for submitting claims. If you lived on one of the following First Nations during a long-term drinking water advisory between November 20, 1995 and June 20, 2021, there is still time apply for compensation. Claims period closed The Claims period for the First Nations Drinking Water Settlement is now closed. The Administrator continues to process Individual Damages and Impacted First Nations claims and is making payments to those who are eligible. Payments for Specified Injuries claims will begin after all Specified Injuries claims have been processed (including any appeals). This is because the compensation amount for each eligible individual depends on the total number of eligible Specified Injury claims received. This can only be decided after all claims have been adjudicated and any appeals resolved.
